Conditions Treated
Eye disorders are a common problem for people of all ages. At Eye Luv Lucy, in San Jose, CA, we offer treatment for common vision problems and vision correction. Read on to learn more about the conditions we treat and how we do it.
Dry Eye
Dry eye is a common condition, and can range from mild to severe. Mild dry eye can be treated with over-the-counter eye drops. However, if you have more severe symptoms, or your dry eye is chronic, you'll need to visit an optometrist for treatment.
The symptoms of dry eye include burning or itching, feeling like something is in your eye, blurry vision, light sensitivity, watery eyes, and redness. Treatment can include prescription eye drops, and surgery to block the tear duct, which keeps the natural tears in the eye.
Computer Vision Syndrome
Computer vision syndrome occurs when you spend too much time looking at your computer, phone, or other digital devices. The symptoms of computer vision syndrome include eye strain, headaches, blurry vision, dry eyes, and neck pain.
Computer vision treatment can be treated with specially designed contact lenses or eyeglasses. These corrective lenses may have a tint or coating, or special lens powers to aid in computer vision. A type of therapy known as visual training can also help in some cases. This is essentially a program of exercises for the eyes. It can correct issues with eye focusing or coordination.
Nearsightedness or Farsightedness
Nearsightedness, known as myopia, occurs when you have poor distance vision. Farsightedness means that you have good distance vision, but poor near vision. Nearsightedness can be treated with glasses, contacts, or Ortho-k, which is a special type of contacts that are worn at night. Farsightedness can also be treated with glasses or contacts.
Astigmatism
Astigmatism occurs when the cornea or lens of the eyes is misshapen. This causes blurry vision, eye strain, headaches, and difficulty seeing at night. Treatment for astigmatism can include contacts, eye glasses, or LASIK surgery.
Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration commonly occurs in older people, which is known as Age Related Macular Degeneration. It occurs when the macula, or the center of the eye, becomes damaged over time. This causes blurry central, or straight-ahead vision.
Dietary supplements can slow the progression of AMD. Medications that are injected into the eye, known as anti-VEGF, can help treat AMD. Photodynamic therapy, which is a combination of laser treatment and injections, can also treat the condition.
